Secretary-Designate Commits to “Do Better” on Job Corps

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee last week, Labor Secretary-designate Thomas Perez was repeatedly pressed about his plans to improve the management of Job Corps. Sens. Bob Casey (D-PA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), each questioned Mr. Perez on his plans for Job Corps. Mr. Perez alluded to the multiple conversations he has had with several Senators regarding their concerns with Job Corps’ recent mismanagement and at one point stated “We have to do better. We can do better. We will do better.”
