The NJCA strongly encourages all Job Corps supporters to call their members of Congress and urge their support for requiring bicameral budget negotiations in the CR. This is the best and last chance to eliminate or replace the 2014 sequestration cuts.
If the next round of sequestration cuts are implemented on January 15, as currently planned, Job Corps’ funding would once again be significantly cut in program year 2014. This means that additional cuts would have to be made or, at best, Job Corps would continue to operate at its current reduced capacity.
There seems to be widespread political agreement that sequestration was not the most efficient tool for making budget cuts. This is evident at every Job Corps center. Therefore, the NJCA urges Job Corps advocates, including students, parents, community supporters, and employers to call the offices of their U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators with a simple message:
“The 2013 sequestration cuts have been devastating to our community, particularly to our Job Corps center. We urge you to ensure that the CR requires bicameral budget negotiations to prevent the 2014 sequester cuts from causing further harm to our Job Corps center and community.”
